1.Choose Tools | File Formats 
(Beyond Compare | File Formats on macOS) to open the File Formats dialog.
2.Select a text format.
3.Click the Misc page.
4.Clear the Insert spaces instead of tabs checkbox to insert a tab character when pressing the Tab. When the checkbox is selected, an appropriate number of spaces is inserted instead.
5.The Tab stop setting determines the interval between tab stops. Pressing the Tab key advances the cursor to the next tab stop.
6.Select the Lines are independent checkbox when each line is an independent record and it is not useful to manipulate consecutive difference lines as a Section.
7.Select the Column-based data checkbox when the position of each character on a line is important and lines should be compared column-by-column.
